the 26th of last month,
No. 9015/17/18, I a directed by the Postmaster General to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that a copy of the letter from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce was transmitted to the Foreign Office with reference to previous correspondence concerning the maintenance of the British Post Office Agencies in China. A copy of the reply received is enclosed.
So far as the Postmaster General is aware, there is no immediate question of closing the Agencies; and similar conditions to those suggested have already been considered in the case of their eventual withdrawal.
